Our featured alumnus is Dr. Neil Concibido.  He will be joining the UPLB Chemical Engineering Department as Adjunct Assistant Professor, to share his expertise on Process Safety Management to our Faculty and Students.

Dr. Concibido obtained his undergraduate chemical engineering degree from UPLB in 1992.  He then worked briefly as a University Research Associate at BIOTECH-UPLB and as   Instructor in UPLB (Institute of Chemistry), before continuing his graduate studies (M.S. Bioprocess Technology) at the Asian Institute of Technology (Bangkok, Thailand) from 1996 to 1997.  After his MS studies, he returned to UPLB to teach at the Department of Engineering Science, before pursuing his doctorate studies in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Hiroshima University, Japan (2002-2006).

After graduate studies, his work experience (from Process/Project Engineer to Assistant Manager, Henkel, Japan, Ltd) eventually led him to a career path in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Process Safety Management (PSM).  He presently works as Corporate Process Safety Manager, Global Safety Solutions, Corning Incorporated.  In his present position, he develops policies, guidelines and tools, facilitates PHAs for existing processes and new projects, the deployment of training, as well as conducting Safety Reviews (PSSR) and Chemical Reactivity Hazards Evaluation.

Dr. Concibido has published several publications in Applied Catalysis, Tetrahedron and Reaction Kinetics Catalysis Letters.  He also received awards from Henkel, Japan and Corning DCA.

As Adjunct Assistant Professor in the department, Dr. Concibido will be giving lectures to students on relevant topics in Process Safety Management.  He will also serve as consultant in the management of practicum courses in the department and facilitate faculty trainings relevant to Process Safety Management.  The department looks forward to Dr Concibido’s sharing of his expertise to both students and faculty in the department.
